Cape Verde Republic comprises the Cape Verde Islands in the Atlantic Ocean, due west of the westernmost point of Africa. The archipelago consists of ten islands, including Fogo which is the group's only active volcano and all but three of these are mountainous.
The islands boast great diversity of landscape, from barren flats to verdant, windward valleys. Its beaches increasingly attract the package-tour crowd and many of these have chosen to buy a property in Cape Verde. Until recently Cape Verde's beauty was largely kept a secret – the long beaches of endless white sand, lapped by turquoise ocean, the historical mystery of colonial style towns like Ribeira Grande the first European City in the tropics and the wide variety of dramatic landscapes. |
